"The Hidden Danger: Why Staffers and Bureaucrats Need Term Limits, Too!"

". . . I want to provide a bit of nuance here as we talk about term limits. We can talk about term limits for Congress, and I think that's important. But term limits for Congress without term limits for staffers and bureaucrats, I would say that's very dangerous. We've all seen over the last few years the danger of a 'deep state.' These are people that have been embedded in the federal government for years, sometimes decades, sometimes a lifetime. They consider themselves above and apart from the American people and unaccountable to elected officials. So one of the problems we always want to be really careful about - people talk about imposing term limits on Congress. I say 'yes' to that, but not if we don't also term-limit staff and bureaucrats. Because if we don't do both, what you end up with is staffers and bureaucrats have even more power than they have right now. You'll have unintended consequences that'll be much worse than even our current situation . . ."
